MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND GUIDELINES
Come Prepared. Students must have their instrument and pencil every band day. Points will be deducted for missing items. This may lower a student's grade in band.
No Gum, Candy, or Pop in band room.
Respect the rights of others. Everyone has the right to learn and the director has a right to teach. Students who make this task
impossible will be dismissed from class.
Concert Dress Guidelines:
Girls - Dresses, skirts, nice pants and a dressy top
Boys - Dress pants and a nice shirt
NO blue jeans!
*Please avoid tennis shoes if possible

MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND GRADING SYSTEM
The Trimester letter grade is based on a percentage of a cumulative total.
Letter grades (A B C D F) will be determined by the following:
Coming Prepared/Staying on task-20 points for each rehearsal
Student must have instrument and materials for each rehearsal. Student must also stay on
task during class. Failure to do so will result in a deduction of 20 points from grade.
Lessons-150 points for each lesson
Students are required to have 3 lessons per trimester. Students must be prepared and
well practiced for each band lesson in order to receive the full 150 points. Students who have
band lessons during class will lose 75 points if they do not have their materials with them.
Concerts-250 points for each concert
Concert attendance is mandatory, however absences occur occasionally. Students with
excused absences will have the option to make-up all of the missed points. Students with
unexcused absences will have the option to make-up part of the points. It is helpful if conflicts
are worked out in advance of the performance.
Practice-Points will vary with each assessment
Students are expected to practice!! At times throughout the year, students may receive a
series of exercises that they will have to pass off on in order to earn the points. Playing tests
will also be given throughout the year. These performances will be an assessment of practice.
Written assignments, quizzes and tests will also be given throughout the year.
