What you need to know about the Metrodome Concessions...

To: All Band/Marching Band Students and Parents From: Tim Ernst and Kim Allgor

Please read this important information regarding fundraising at the Metrodome.
Each worker will be required to accept the terms of this document.

Working in the concession stands at the Metrodome will earn each worker approximately $60.00 and each manager approximately $90.00 for Twins, Gophers, and Vikings games and other events. On average, workers are there for 6 -7 hours, managers from 2 to 3 hours longer. Amounts earned may vary due to shortages or if the group earns commission. Training dates, work dates, and other Metrodome fundraiser information will be posted on this website.

Training:

All workers are required to be signed up to attend a 2-1/2 hour CORE Training session before they are allowed to work at the Metrodome. Training sessions are typically offered twice a month beginning in February. You will be responsible for your own transportation to training. You must contact Tim at least 5 days prior to the training session you are interested in. He can give you the names of others signed up if you want to pursue carpooling. See the band website for available session dates.

Rules and Regulations:

  • Workers must be 16 or older, however, students cannot work on school nights
  • You can have other people work for your account, but the number of workers from each family allowed to go up at one time may be limited depending on the size of the group that the Metrodome is able to accommodate
  • You will get a coupon for hot dogs, pretzels, nachos, brats, peanuts, bag of popcorn, and malt cups
  • Adults work cash registers (line workers) youth work as back-ups - NO EXCEPTIONS
  • All workers are required to stay until dismissed by the inventory or money manager
  • Cleanup is EVERYONE'S responsibility
  • No students are allowed to drive up - adult workers will always do the driving (see transportation information below)
  • We meet in the East lot (student entrance) at the high school 1 hour before the report time. It is very important that the majority of the group come in at the appropriate reporting time in order to prepare the stand opening
  • If you arrive more than 30 minutes after the report time, you will be paid an hourly wage rather than the normal rate
  • The time involved is usually 8-9 hours including travel
  • The money will be in your account three to four weeks after you work
  • Each manager has his/her own style; please respect this and be adaptable

Managers:

  • Anyone 16 or over can be trained to work as a money manager
  • Anyone 18 or over can be trained as both money and inventory managers
  • The more managers we have as a group, the more versatile we are
  • Managers report for work 30-60 minutes before line workers, and stay 1-2 hours more
  • Managers are less likely to end up on the waiting list
  • Managers are given priority when assigning port workers (you get to keep your tips)
  • Managers training dates will be posted on the band website
  • Contact Tim if you are interested in becoming a manager
  • Before you can attend manager training, you must be CORE trained and have worked 1 Metrodome event

Uniform:

  • White, short-sleeve or sleeveless t-shirt (No offensive writing or pictures)
  • Black pants (no shorts): black sweats, slacks, jeans, etc.
  • Sturdy, comfortable shoes (no sandals or other open toe/heel shoes); tennis shoes are best
  • When you arrive you will get a shirt to put over your t-shirt
  • In the stand, the manager will give you a cap to wear. The caps belong to our group, so please turn them into the manager before leaving or the cost of the cap will be deducted from the account of the person you worked for
  • Personal belongings cannot be brought into the stand. This includes cell phones, purses, jackets, lunches, etc. You can bring a lock to secure your items in the employee locker room

Personal Appearance:

  • Finger nails - 1/8" max length; clear/natural color
  • Hair colors - natural color only; NO pink, purple, blue, orange, green...
  • Piercings - no facial piercings except for earrings (nose, lip, eyebrows, tongue if lineworker)
  • Tattoos - need to be covered if can be seen with the uniform on (on the arms, long sleeves may be required if you can see the tattoo with short sleeves)

Sign Up Procedure:

  • Available dates will be posted on this band website
  • Signup at least 2 weeks prior to the event you want to work
  • All signups must be done by email to Kim
  • Email the dates you want to work and the first and last name of each worker
    • Indicate if you are an adult or a youth
    • Indicate if you are able to drive (adults only) and how many passengers you can take besides your own family members (it is assumed they will ride with you)
  • Names will be placed on the list in the order they are received
  • Extra names will be put on a waiting list
  • You will receive an email indicating the status for each worker on the dates requested
  • You will also receive an email 5-7 days before a date you are scheduled to work with the report and meeting times
  • The number of workers varies and can change at the last minute, so even if you start out on the waiting list, there is a chance that you will be contacted to work, so please keep your schedule open for any dates you have signed up for
  • If your ability to work a shift that you requested (even if you are on the waiting list) changes, please notify Kim immediately by email so she can find a replacement for you. If it is within 24 hours of the event, please call her at 651-437-5579
  • A worker who cancels in less than 48 hours before they are scheduled to work and a replacement cannot be found, or if they are a no-show, will be charged $20. If they are scheduled to manage, the charge will be $50. This is the amount that is charged to our group by the Metrodome
  • The Metrodome reserves the right to change the placement of any worker. There is no guarantee that you will always be working with your child or group. Please be flexible, we will do our best to keep the group together but it is not always possible

Transportation:

  • If you have indicated that you can drive, please be prepared to do so, even if you have not specifically been told that you will be driving for a given date
  • We prefer to take fewer vehicles to keep gas and parking costs down and students are not allowed to drive for safety reasons
  • One person will have a check-in list to make sure that everybody expected to meet at the high school is accounted for
  • If you need to meet the group at the Metrodome, you must let Kim know this so the group is not waiting for you at the school
  • Each rider is expected to pay the check-in person to help drivers cover gas and parking
    • Twins - $4
    • Gophers - $4
    • Vikings - $5
  • If you do not pay, the required amount plus a $1 fee will be deducted from the account of the person that you are working for
  • Some drivers prefer to park at Fort Snelling and take Light Rail to the Metrodome, especially during Vikings games when parking is very expensive. In this case, the driver needs to let the check-in person know their plan so that their riders do not pay. Those riders, however, must purchase train tickets, which cost $3.75 round trip. There will be no parking/gas money for those drivers
  • If the driver is in your own family, you do not need to pay, but make sure the check-in person knows this
  • If nobody outside your family rides with you, you will not receive parking/gas money
  • The money collected will be divided equally between all eligible drivers who take up passengers other than their own family members
  • Any money deducted from accounts of those who fail to pay the check-in person will also be divided between these drivers and put in the account of the person they worked for
  • To be safe, always bring $5 with you and you will have enough to pay your driver or buy your Light Rail ticket

To signup to work, please email Kim
