Jim Jacobsen joined the staff at Hastings High School in 2010. At HHS he directs the Wind Ensemble, Varsity Band (a freshman Concert Band), Jazz 1, Jazz II, Chamber Ensembles and teaches instrumental lessons.
Before coming to Hastings High School, Jim was a Band Director at Eagan High School and Apollo High School in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. Mr. Jacobsen has also directed marching bands, drumlines, and percussion ensembles throughout the state.
Jim Jacobsen is an active adjudicator and has presented clinics and adjudicated throughout the Nation for various solo and ensemble, large group and marching band competitions. He is an active performer, performing in the Medalist Concert Band from Bloomington, Minnesota and the “Table Band” at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Mr. Jacobsen has also performed with two Drum and Bugle Corps; the Bluecoats from Canton, Ohio and Minnesota Brass from the Twin Cities.
Jim Jacobsen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from St. Cloud State University and a Masters degree in Conducting from the American Band College program at Southern Oregon University.
Jim and his wife, Sonia, live in Rosemount with their two young children and two old dogs. In addition to spending time with his family, Mr. Jacobsen enjoys camping, motorsports, and reading.
Duane Oldham
Duane Oldham received a Bachelor of Music degree from Winona State University and a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.
Mr. Oldham currently serves as a band director in the Hastings Public School District. At the high school, Mr. Oldham conducts the concert band and teaches wind ensemble lessons. He directs the sixth grade band and teaches brass lessons at Hastings Middle School.
Prior to teaching in Hastings, Mr. Oldham was a band director at New Ulm High School.
Kathy Warren
Kathy Warren has lived and taught in Hastings for the past 22 years. She began her teaching career in Hildreth, NE where she taught band, choir and general music for grades K-12. She next taught K-5 music in Altoona, WI along with 5th grade band and choir. Her present job is directing the 7th and 8th grade bands, jazz bands and teaching lessons for all woodwind and percussion students at Hastings Middle School.
Kathy graduated from Hastings College in Hastings, NE with a Bachelor or Music degree and from the University of St. Thomas with a Master of Music Education degree.
She is married to Lin Warren and has two sons, Lukas and Matthew and a wonderful dog names Zoe.
Katy Linne
Katy Linne has been a band director for 19 years. She has taught band in Hastings since 1997. Prior to teaching band in Hastings, Mrs. Linne taught band grades 5-12 in Michigan and band grades 5-8 in Arizona.
Mrs. Linne served as the horn studio teacher for the Michigan State University Community Music School for 5 years. While teaching band in Michigan and Arizona, she founded 2 community adult beginning band programs that are both still active today.
Katy Linne has performed with the Arizona Light Opera Company, Phoenix Symphony, Tucson Symphony, Festival of the Pines Orchestra, the Broadway Productions of Evita and The Secret Garden, Lansing Symphony, Grand Rapids Symphony, and Detroit Symphony. She was the Director of Recreation and Student Life at Interlochen Center for the Arts summer camp housing approximately 1600 campers. Mrs. Linne has coached horn sectionals, led master classes, and adjudicated solo and ensemble and band festivals in Arizona, Michigan, and Minnesota.
Katy Linne received a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Horn Performance from the University of Arizona. She received her Masters of Music Education at Michigan State University where she taught as a graduate assistant in the music education department.
Currently, Katy facilitates diversity-training sessions for teachers and community groups in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. She lives in Hastings with her husband and 2 children. She also enjoys coaching soccer, biking, hiking, camping and boating.
Emily Chandler
Emily Chandler received her B.S. in K-12 Instrumental Music Education from Winona State University, and a Masters degree in Education from Saint Mary's University in Winona, MN.
Mrs. Chandler has been the Hastings High School Marching Band Director since 2001. She teaches 1-5 Vocal Music and 5-8 Instrumental Music at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School in Hastings, MN. Mrs. Chandler was also the director of the South Washington Community Band from 2000-2003, and has performed in various musical orchestras throughout the Twin Cities Metro.
Mrs. Chandler enjoys coaching 8th grade Softball and 8th grade Volleyball at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School. In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her husband Jerry, and spending time with her two daughters.
